The CMMI Institute's "Capability Maturity Model Integration" (CMMI®) is an internationally recognised process reference model that is used by many organisations worldwide to manage, maintain, benchmark and improve their capability. CMMI® consists of optimised best practices, based on many years' diverse industry experience, organised into appropriate process areas that address technical, management and support activities. The CMMI® model comes in three variants or "constellations":
- CMMI® for Development (CMMI-DEV) for organisations developing products and services.
- CMMI® for Services (CMMI-SVC) for organisations who provide and maintain services.
- CMMI® for Acquisition (CMMI-ACQ) for organisations who predominantly outsource product or service development.
CMMI® may at first seem daunting but, when you realise that the vast majority of the CMMI® content is guidance rather than rigid requirements, it takes on a more practical feel. At CPIS, with our practical experience of CMMI® we can help you get the best out of the model to generate tangible operational benefits, however big or small your team or organisation is. Our services include:
CMMI Training - we can help with awareness, overview, introductory or more detailed training, depending on your needs. CMMI® can be a distraction to staff so our advice is to provide only the level of training needed, and only to those who need it.
CMMI Consultancy & Mentoring - we can help you navigate past the myths and misunderstandings about CMMI® and help you use CMMI® to achieve quick and sustainable benefits.
CMMI Appraisals - understanding what needs to change in your processes and work practices is key, but we make sure CMMI® appraisals are done in an appropriate and cost-effective way, while maintaining the necessary diligence to make appraisal results reliable.
CPIS has been involved in the development and application of the TickITplus Base Process Library and the scheme's Capability Training Course, and has built a strong partnership with Omniprove, a leading TickITplus/CMMI company. With this close bond, common background and shared vision, our partner companies are in the unique position of being able to train, advise, coach and, if necessary, assess organisations in either CMMI, TickITplus or both, potentially postponing or removing the need to choose between the two approaches.

CMMI® Consultancy and Mentoring
CPIS applies the client-friendly principles of our Process Health Management approach to provide consultancy and mentoring to support companies using CMMI®, TickITplus, ISO standards and other models and standards, or those who are just following their own judgement. Our understanding of the intent of the various models and standards, and our clients’ understanding of their businesses, combined and applied in a co-operative way based on a trusting business relationship provides a powerful toolset for rapid progress towards our clients’ business goals and enhanced capability.
For our CMMI® clients, our CMMI Training and CMMI Consultancy & Mentoring Services can be supported by SCAMPI® Appraisals in the UK, Europe and beyond.
We provide all the guidance and support needed to prepare for and carry out SCAMPI Class A, B or C appraisals, including provision of our Certified SCAMPI Lead Appraiser at very competitive rates.
We frequently run informal but cost-effective “mini-appraisals” for diagnostic or health-check purposes, following the SCAMPI C method, typically lasting 2-3 days and giving an indicative view of possible process gaps, deficiencies, strengths or capability improvement possibilities.
